BACOLOD CITY — The Catholic Church here is ready to hold protests in the street against the divorce bill.
Fr. Felix Pasquin, rector of the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City, on Saturday said the Catholic Church would protest against the passage of the divorce bill, just as it was opposing the Reproductive Health bill.
“We are against the introduction of the divorce bill in Congress. We stand by the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ on the sanctity of marriage and the value of the family to the national life and to the life of society,” Pasquin said during the induction of officers of the Negros Press Club at Bascon Hotel in Bacolod City. “We cannot compromise what God teaches us,” he added.
Sen. Teofisto “TJ” Guingona, who was also at the induction, said he has to study the divorce bill first before making a stand. Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez called the RH and divorce bills as diversionary measures from the real problem of the nation that must be addressed. /INQUIRER
