Another 10 health frontliners beat COVID-19 as total infection rose to 2,420

MANILA, Philippines — Ten more healthcare workers in the country have successfully defeated the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) as an additional six were found infected, bringing the total cases to 2,420, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday.

In a televised press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that a total of 1,163 health workers already recovered from the disease as of May 26.

Meanwhile, the death toll among health professionals remained at 31.

Of the total cases, 1,226 are deemed active cases, of which 936 are mild, 288 are asymptomatic, and two are in severe condition.

The five medical professions with the highest number of COVID-19 infections are nurses (879), doctors (682), nursing assistants (148), medical technologists (89), and radiologic technologists (45).

The total COVID-19 cases among health workers account for 17 percent of the total COViD-19 infection in the Philippines.

To date, there are 14,669 people nationwide infected with SARS-CoV-2 the new coronavirus that causes the potentially deadly respiratory ailment. Of the total cases, 3,412 recovered while 886 died.
