MANILA, Philippines — More than 940,000 medical frontliners across the country were so far able to get free rides to their workplaces under the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) “Libreng Sakay” program.
As of Monday, May 25, the DOTr said the total ridership of the program reached 943,861, of which more than 230,000 are from Metro Manila while over 710,000 are from other regions.
A total of 204 vehicles ply the roads to service healthcare workers across the country, according to DOTr. In Greater Manila, there are 20 routes wherein buses can pick up and drop off passengers.
Healthcare workers can view the live location of bus units and know the time of their arrival in stops on the transport department’s website, mobile app, or Google maps.
The DOTr also offers its free ride service to medical workers from the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Rizal Memorial Stadium, Philippine International Convention Center, and World Trade Center, which are community quarantine facilities for COVID-19 patients.
It can also deploy service vehicles for other centers such as the Filinvest Tent in Alabang, Philippine Sports Complex in Pasig, and Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City.
Toll fees in all expressways in Luzon also remain free for medical workers, the DOTr reminded.
Mass public transport continues to be suspended in Metro Manila, including other areas under the modified enhanced community quarantine.
