COVID-19 cases in Philippines breach 14,000 mark –DOH

MANILA, Philippines — The total number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines has breached the 14,000 mark after the Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday recorded 258 new cases nationwide.

The total number of infections in the country is now at 14,035.

This while the DOH also recorded the recovery of 72 cases and the death of five others. The Philippines now has 3,249 COVID-19 recoveries and 868 deaths.

Of the 258 new cases, 195 or 75 percent were recorded in Metro Manila.

Twelve or 5 percent of the new cases were repatriates while 51 others or 20 percent were recorded in other areas.

COVID-19 is a severe respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which first emerged in Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province in late 2019.

Globally, it has so far infected more than 5.3 million people. Of the figure, at least 2 million have recovered while over 350,000 people have died of the disease.
