DAGUPAN CITY –– The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) has certified the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) in San Fernando City, La Union as a COVID-19 PCR testing laboratory.

The ITRMC received the accreditation from the RITM, which is under the Department of Health, on Wednesday. It will test swab specimens using real-time (RT) PCR or polymerase chain reaction machine.

The facility will cater to patients from Region I hospitals that send swab specimens to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGMC).

Pangasinan Provincial Health Officer Anna de Guzman said it takes around one week for the BGHMC to release test results because of the volume of specimens.
