105,800 households in Visayas yet to get cash aid
CEBU CITY—At least 105,800 households in the Visayas have yet to receive the first tranche of cash aid under the government’s Social Amelioration Program despite several extended deadlines. Records from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) offices in the Visayas showed that as of Thursday, 32,000 families in Central Visayas, 56,000 in Western Visayas and 17,800 in Eastern Visayas had not received the assistance. DSWD officials said local governments had been given until Friday to finish the aid distribution. The Department of the Interior and Local Government earlier announced that it would issue show-cause orders to 43 mayors in the country who had failed to reach 80 percent of target beneficiaries on May 10, the extended deadline. —NESTOR BURGOS, JOEY GABIETA AND ADOR MAYOL
