MANILA, Philippines – A large part of the country may continue experiencing partly cloudy skies on Thursday night until Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Weather forecasts on Thursday afternoon showed that these clouds can bring isolated thunderstorms and rain showers, while the northern tip of Luzon would experience rains due to the stationary front — a frontal system which generates clouds when cold and warm air meet.
Despite the possible rains, Pagasa said that there are no low pressure areas inside or outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
Temperatures in Metro Manila amid the recent scattered downpours remain high, ranging from 27 to 35 degrees Celsius on Friday and 26 to 34 degrees by Saturday.
The same could be said for Cebu City and Davao City, which is expected to have temperatures in between of 27 to 34 degrees Celsius, and 24 to 34 degrees, respectively.
No gale warning has been raised up to now, as sea condition remains to be slight to moderate in all seaports of the country. This means fisherfolk and small boat operators can set sail.
Earlier, Pagasa revealed that actual temperatures and heat indices are still high, knocking off notions that the country is transitioning to the rainy season. A 47 degrees Celsius heat index was recorded in Tanauan City in Batangas, Legazpi City, and Sangley Point in Cavite.
Science City of Muñoz in Nueva Ecija and Roxas City in Capiz both registered a 45 degree Celsius heat index. In Metro Manila, meteorologists were able to register a scorching 42 degrees Celsius heat index in the Science Garden at Quezon City.
Pagasa released temperature numbers for Wednesday, with Echague town in Isabela still topping the list at 37.0 degrees Celsius, followed by Tuguegarao City (36.3 degrees), Bayombong in Nueva Vizcaya (36.0 degrees), Catbalogan City (35.8 degrees), and Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac (35.8).
“PAALALA: Nasa panahon pa rin tayo ng tag-init kaya dalasan pa rin ang pag-inom ng tubig at bawasan ang physical activities sa tanghali/hapon para maiwasan ang heat stress. Ingat po!” the state weather bureau said.
(REMINDER: We are still in the summer season so we should increase our water intake and reduce physical activities by noon and the afternoon to avoid heat stress. Stay safe!)
