UP Board of Regents allows over 60 units to issue Pass mark to students

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines Board of Regents (BOR) has approved all submitted appeals from constituent universities (CUs) for exemption from the numeric grade system and for the issuance of the Pass mark to students amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the UP Office of the Student Regent (OSR), more than 60 units, or departments and colleges, in the UP System were granted approval to exempt their classes from the numeric grade system and give out the Pass mark, as an option, to their students. These appeals were endorsed by their respective CUs.

“This is a big victory for the Iskolar ng Bayan as we continued to collectively amplify our campaign for mass promotion,” the UP-OSR said in a statement on Thursday.

“Despite the disappointing outcome of the decision of the BOR on the fate of this semester in its last meeting, we were still able to assert our demand for the expedited and blanket approval of all appeals to allow the Pass mark,” it added.

The OSR then thanked all instructors, professors, departments and colleges, and CUs that stood by its call for mass promotion.

“Indeed, there is and always will be a hole in us as a UP community,” it added.
