‘No work, no pay’ if leave credits used up

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Wednesday that the “no work, no pay” policy applied to workers who had used up their leave credits but had to go on quarantine because of COVID-19.

“What’s important is they follow the instructions if they truly have to undergo quarantine. [W]e are saying they should attend more to [their] health than work. Their relationship with their company will be attended to later,” Labor Undersecretary Ana Dione said.

Currently, workers are given a minimum five days of sick leaves a year. Dione, however, asked businesses to be “kinder” and take care of their workers while the country was still reeling from the pandemic.
