MAKATI, Philippines — Less than a week after the launching of its Makatizen Economic Relief Program (MERP), the Makati government has distributed P5,000 in financial aid to each of the more than 100,000 qualified individuals.

“I am happy to report that we have already rolled out our cash assistance to over 114,800 residents in just six working days. This has been made possible through the digital platforms we have utilized to reach more beneficiaries faster,” Mayor Abby Binay said in a statement on Wednesday.

The city government has partnered with GCash for the contact-free and efficient delivery of financial aid to residents.

Binay said that of the 250,000 applications received so far, 142,267 were approved. Around 10,000 were rejected due to the incomplete and incorrect information submitted by applicants.

Those disapproved would receive a call or text message explaining why their application was rejected and what steps they should take to qualify.
