Sta. Cruz jazz choir turns 40
MANILA, Philippines—The jazz choir of Sta. Cruz Parish in Manila will mark its 40th anniversary on Sunday.
The anniversary activities will include a Eucharistic celebration to be led by Fr. Joseph Matitu, SSS, the parish priest of Sta. Cruz, and Fr. Joselito Hitosis, SSS. A simple program and dinner will follow.
The occasion is cause for much reflection and remembrance, according to those who have played a pivotal role in the life of the jazz choir since its founding in 1972.
They said that for many past and present members, the jazz choir has been a constant presence in their and their families’ lives, serving as a strong link to their lasting commitment to “serve the Lord by singing love and praise, and to be an instrument in guiding people to God’s love and salvation through the Eucharist.”
