DAGUPAN CITY –– The City government enforced a traffic-coding scheme on Tuesday (May 19) to keep down the number of private vehicles in the city, while it remains under general community quarantine.
Ordinance No. 2204-2020, signed on May 15 by Mayor Brian Lim, will be piloted from May 19 to 25 to ease motorists into the new system, before it is fully implemented on May 25.
Lim said the traffic scheme is a “public health precautionary measure because the indisputable fact is there are more people outside of their residences, the greater probability of many getting infected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).”
The ordinance exempts all public utility vehicles from the scheme.
The coding scheme is enforced in vehicles traversing A.B. Fernandez Avenue, Perez Boulevard, Burgos and Burgos Extension Street, A.B. Fernandez West, A.B, Fernandez East, M.H. del Pilar Street, the entire stretch of Arellano Bani, and Tapuac Road.
Violators would be issued citation tickets and would pay P500 for the first offense, P1,000 for the second offense, and P2,000 for the third and succeeding offenses.
The fines collected would be deposited into a trust fund to be exclusively used for improving traffic safety in Dagupan.
