MANILA, Philippines — The “Month of the Ocean” is observed every May by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 57 signed on Dec. 11, 1998.
The Constitution recognizes the responsibility of the state to protect the nation’s marine wealth. Activities to be conducted are aimed at highlighting the importance and significance of conservation, protection and sustainable management of the country’s coastal and marine resources.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Agriculture through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources spearhead the activities related to the observance of the occasion.
