MANILA, Philippines — Tropical depression “Ambo” (international name: Vongfong) weakened into a low pressure area (LPA) on Sunday as it moves generally northeastward over the Bashi Channel, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over Batanes is now lifted, based on the 5 p.m. severe weather bulletin of the weather bureau.
At 4 p.m., the center of the LPA was located 125 kilometers northwest of Basco, Batanes.
Pagasa said light to moderate with at times heavy rains will be experienced over Batanes until Sunday night.
Meanwhile, moderate to rough sea conditions will be experienced over Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Pagasa advised fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts not to venture out on these areas.
Fair weather will be observed over the rest of the country including Metro Manila, according to Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin De La Cruz.
“Meron lamang pong tumutubong convection or convective system sa ilang bahagi ng ating kalupaan at maaari po itong magdudulot ng mga panandaliang pag-ulan from 5 to 30 minutes approximately dulot ng thunderstorms,” she said in a weather update.
(There is a convection or convective system surfacing over some parts of the land which can cause rainshowers from approximately five to 30 minutes due to thunderstorms.)
Pagasa is also monitoring a cloud cluster in the eastern portion of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
“Sa silangang bahagi ng ating PAR ay meron tayong minomonitor na cloud cluster at may nakikita po tayong maliit na sirkulasyon dito. In the next two days, nananatiling mababa ang tsansa na mabuo ito bilang isang bagyo,” De La Cruz said.
(We are monitoring a cloud cluster in the eastern portion of PAR and we see a minor circulation. In the next two days, there is a low chance that this will develop into a storm.)
