COVID-19 cases in PH climb to 12,305 as DOH records 214 new infections

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported Saturday an additional 214 cases of COVID-19, increasing the number of coronavirus infections in the country to 12,305.

DOH, at the same time, said 101 patients were able to recover from the severe respiratory illness, bringing the total to 2,561 recoveries, as death toll claimed to 817 with the death of 11 more people.

COVID-19 is a potentially deadly ailment caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which was first detected in Wuhan City of Hubei province in China in late 2019.

The virus causes mild or moderate symptoms such as fever or cough for most people but it can cause serious illness such as pneumonia to senior citizens and those with underlying health issues.

Globally, COVID-19 has infected more than 4.5 million people and killed over 307,000 while more than 1.63 million people managed to recover from the disease.

The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
