BACOLOD CITY –– Public masses and other religious activities in Negros Occidental may now resume as the province shifts to general community quarantine (GCQ) on Saturday.
In his executive order, Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Lacson gave the go-signal for churches in the province to reopen and continue their services.
He, however, reminded the people to strictly follow the health protocols, particularly the physical distancing measures, to avoid the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Religious organizations, he said, should be allowed to accommodate only half of the church’s capacity.
“There shall be no physical contact, and everyone shall wear a face mask at all times,” Lacson said.
Churches shall also be disinfected in between services.
“Religious organizations shall inform the public of their schedule of masses and services,” he said.
Lacson said he was informed that there would be more masses in Catholic churches in Negros Occidental considering the limited number of parishioners, who can attend a Mass.
San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza said they have prepared the guidelines for churchgoers once they officially resume public Masses.
“We are ready with our protocols in case it’s clear we have the go-signal,” he said in an interview.
