LIGAO CITY –– A resident died after he was electrocuted while repairing the roof of his boarding house in Daraga town in Albay province before Typhoon “Ambo” (international name: Vongfong) hit Bicol Thursday, police said Friday.
Junil Banzagales, 24, a resident of Bacacay, also in Albay, was fixing the roof of his boarding house at Sagpon village at 2:45 p.m. when he accidentally touched the secondary wire of power distributor Albay Power and Energy Corporation.
Due to high voltage, the victim sustained third-degree burns in different parts of the body and died on the spot.
Although Banzagales died after storm signal number 3 was hoisted over Albay due to Ambo, he was not considered a typhoon-related death.
Cedric Daep, Albay Public Safety Emergency and Management Office (APSEMO) chief, said in an interview Friday that the incident did not happen during the time Ambo was already at the vicinity of the province, was not caused by flooding, lahar, landslide, storm surge, or fire and did not occur while the victim was being transported to or was in an evacuation center.
Daep added that for a death to also be considered typhoon-related, the incident should be certified by a police blotter and death certificate issued by the attending physician.
