MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Ambo is now over Catanauan, Quezon and is approaching the northern portion of Quezon and Laguna, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
According to Pagasa’s 11 a.m. severe weather bulletin on Friday, the eyewall of the typhoon is bringing destructive winds and heavy to intense rainfall over the northern portion of the Bondoc Peninsula in southern Quezon.
Moderate to heavy and intense rains will hit the Bicol region, Quezon, Aurora, Marinduque, Laguna, Rizal, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino, the state weather bureau warned.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) remain raised in several areas, including in Metro Manila which is still under TCWS No. 2.
Pagasa said the weather disturbance is moving northwest at 20 kilometers per hour (kph), and is bringing maximum sustained winds of 125 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 165 kph.
The typhoon has so far made six landfalls: in San Policarpo, Eastern Samar at 12:15 p.m. Thursday; Dalupiri Island, Northern Samar at 10:15 p.m. Thursday; Capul Island, Northern Samar at 10:30 p.m. Thursday; Ticao Island, Masbate at 12:00 a.m. Friday; Burias Island, Masbate at 3 a.m.and San Andres, Quezon at 7:45 a.m.
Pagasa warned that flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur in highly to very highly susceptible areas during heavy or prolonged rainfall, and that sea travel is risky for all types of vessels in affected regions.
TCWS No. 3, which means winds of greater than 121 kph up to 170 kph may be expected in at least 18 hours, is raised over the following areas:
– Quezon including Polillo Island
– Rizal
– Laguna
– southern portion of Aurora (Dipaculao, Maria Aurora, Baler, San Luis, Dingalan)
– southern portion of Nueva Ecija (Licab, Quezon, Santo Domingo, Talavera, Llanera, Rizal,Bongabon, General Mamerto Natividad, Aliaga, Zaragoza, San Antonio, Jaen, Santa Rosa, Cabanatuan, Palayan, Laur, Gabaldon, Peñaranda, San Leonardo, Cabiao, San Isidro, Gapan, General Tinio)
– eastern portion of Bulacan (San Miguel, San Ildefonso, Dona Remedios Trinidad, San Rafael, Angat, Norzagaray, San Jose Del Monte)
– western portion of Camarines Norte (Santa Elena, Capalonga, Jose Panganiban, Paracale, Labo)

TCWS No. 2, which means winds of greater than 61 kph and up to 120 kph may be expected in at least 24 hours, is raised over the following areas:
