LEGAZPI CITY—Work has been suspended in the provinces of Camarines Norte and Catanduanes, and the city of Naga in Camarines Sur as Typhoon Ambo (international name Vongfong) lashed at the Bicol region.
The suspension of work in Naga City and Catanduanes started on Thursday afternoon and would last until storm signals are lifted.
Camarines Norte Gov. Edgardo Tallado suspended work on Friday (May 15) after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued a bulletin on Thursday warning of heavy to intense rains throughout the region.
Tallado, Catanduanes Gov. Joseph Cua, and Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion have all directed disaster frontline offices to be on full alert.
In a memo, Cua said only those with essential work, like health provision, disaster readiness and delivery of basic services, would be allowed to go on duty.
Legacion encouraged private establishments to suspend work.
The mayor said companies and establishments who would send their employees to work at the height of Ambo “must compensate and guarantee their employees’ safety.”
As of 7 p.m. on Thursday (May 14), the entire region is under cyclone wind Signal No. 3.
