43 mayors asked to explain slow SAP distribution — DILG
MANILA, Philippines — Forty-three mayors across the country have been ordered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to explain their supposed slow disbursement of funds under the social amelioration program (SAP) even as the deadline for the cash aid distribution was extended twice.
“Maglalabas na tayo ng show cause order sa mga naiiwang 43 mayors nationwide dahil sa bagal ng pagbibigay ng ayuda sa kani-kanilang mga constituents. Kasi nga meron pa tayong 3% na mga family beneficiaries ang hindi pa rin nakakatanggap as of Wednesday,” Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said in a statement.
(We will issue a show-cause order to the remaining 43 mayors nationwide because of their delayed distribution of the cash assistance to their constituents. We still have three percent of family beneficiaries that have yet to receive the cash aid as of Wednesday.)
This was an increase from Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya’s figures on Wednesday that stated 30 mayors will receive show-cause orders for poor disbursement of the cash assistance that will help constituents to cope with economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Año, meanwhile, said 43 local government units had a distribution rate of 79 percent based on data last midnight of May 10, Sunday.
Out of 43 mayos with show-cause orders, 11 mayors are from Western Visayas, eight are from MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), five from Central Visayas, four in the Davao Region, and four in the National Capital Region.
