COVID-19 suspect dies in Palawan

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY –– One suspected coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patient in this city has died, bringing the death toll in the entire province of Palawan to 34.

Richard Ligad, chief of the City Information Office, in a Facebook announcement on Wednesday, said the patient was a female, about 40 to 45 years old, from an urban barangay. The patient, who also has known comorbidity, was swabbed for the COVID-19 confirmatory test and has a pending result.

The island province is monitoring 64 suspected COVID-19 patients, 21 of whom were admitted in different hospitals, while the remaining 43 were under strict home quarantine, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Center for Health Development (CHD) Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (Mimaropa) as of 3 p.m., Wednesday (May 13).

Meanwhile, 18 suspected COVID-19 patients in Palawan have tested negative for the disease, according to DOH Mimaropa.

Five of the 18 negative test results were those of the deceased suspected COVID-19 patients from Puerto Princesa City, according to Ligad.

The DOH-CHD Mimaropa, in its latest bulletin, recorded eight “suspected” patients in Palawan still awaiting test results from San Lazaro Hospital.

The licensing team from CHD-Mimaropa is set to arrive this week to certify Puerto Princesa City’s COVID-19 testing facility in Ospital Ng Palawan.
