NBI told to look into Sinas’ ‘mañanita’
MANILA, Philippines – Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Wednesday said he would ask the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an investigation into the birthday celebration of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Major General Debold Sinas to determine if quarantine protocols were violated.
“I will ask the NBI to look into this too. There is already an existing order to the NBI to investigate violations of quarantine protocols,” Guevarra told reporters.
Strict quarantine protocols are in effect in Metro Manila to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. These protocols include social distancing, no mass gatherings, liquor ban in some areas, among others.
However, photos circulated in social media about the “mañanita” that was held in honor of Sinas who celebrated his birthday last May 8.
“As Justice Secretary, I have always advised the NBI to enforce the laws fairly and uniformly. As you probably know, the case of Senator Aquilino Pimentel III is now under preliminary investigation. Local government officials have also been summoned to explain apparent violations of quarantine protocols,” Guevarra said.
Guevarra added : “I will instruct the NBI to include more recent cases of alleged quarantine violations by some personalities, if the NBI is not looking into these cases as yet. My instruction is to look into all reported cases of non-cooperation/violation of quarantine protocols, regardless of who is involved. The NBI knows who these people are.”
