LEGAZPI CITY –– The Diocese of Legazpi has offered its churches and other available areas in its 47 parishes as evacuation centers as Tropical Storm “Ambo” nears Albay province.
“As the local government units and communities are now preparing for the typhoon, I urge our parish priests to offer their churches, halls, or other safe spaces and chapels, as additional evacuation centers, because of social distancing measures, which mean a fewer number of families to be accommodated in the regular evacuation centers,” said Bishop Joel Baylon of the Diocese of Legazpi.
Fr. Rex Paul Arjona, executive officer of the Diocese Social Action Center, presented the plan to the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and was approved.
Baylon asked the priests of the different parishes to coordinate with their respective disaster councils.
