Gov wants Negros Occidental placed under GCQ until COVID test lab is ready

BACOLOD CITY –– Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson is sending a letter to the Inter-Agency Task Force, to ask that the province be placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) until the end of the month.

“We cannot risk it until the Negros Occidental’s bio laboratory for COVID-19 testing is ready,” said provincial administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

Negros Occidental, as well as its capital Bacolod City, will no longer be under any quarantine starting May 16 as announced by the IATF on Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia would call for an emergency meeting to discuss whether the city government should appeal for GCQ in Bacolod until the end of the month.

He said he would also ask the city council to pass ordinances to institutionalize safety measures against COVID-19.
