MANILA, Philippines – The country’s hottest temperature for 2020 was recorded in Echague town of Isabela at a smoldering 41.2 degrees Celsius, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday.
According to Pagasa, this 41.2 degrees Celsius obtained on Monday by the was air temperature and not heat index which takes into account the level of humidity in an area to form the apparent heat or the temperature that human beings feel.
After Echague, the next highest temperature recorded on Monday was at Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, at a feverish 39.7 degrees Celsius.
“Ang 41.2°C air temperature na naitala sa Echague, Isabela kahapon, 11 Mayo, ang pinakamataas na recorded temperature so far ngayong tag-init,” Pagasa said in a Facebook post.
“PAALALA: Dalasan ang pag-inom ng tubig at bawasan ang physical activities sa tanghali/hapon para maiwasan ang heat stress. Ingat po!” they added.
Pagasa previously said that it expects the hot weather in Luzon including Metro Manila to continue over May or before the onset of the rainy season. However, the forecast track of Tropical Depression “Ambo”, which is expected to intensify and traverse Metro Manila, is seen to bring some relief from the heat.
