Medical frontliner is 142nd COVID-19 case in Valenzuela

MANILA, Philippines — A 44-year-old frontliner in a hospital is the latest case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Valenzuela City.

The local government on Tuesday said the patient tested positive for the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19, last April 13.

This brought the total number of cases in the city to 142 as of May 12.

“Our CESU reports another #COVID19 confirmed case in Valenzuela City bringing our total to 142 as of May 12, 2020. The result came from RESU,” the city government said in a Twitter post.

“VC142 is a 44-year-old male, a frontliner in a hospital, who tested positive for COVID-19 last April 13, 2020,” it added.

As of May 11, the Philippines so far has 11,086 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 1,999 recoveries and 726 deaths.

Valenzuela City, along with other cities in Metro Manila, Pateros, Laguna province, and Cebu City will be placed under modified enhanced community quarantine starting May 16 until May 31.

Under modified ECQ, the movement of people will remain to be highly restricted with most only allowed to leave their homes for the provision of food and other basic necessities and in cases of emergency.

Some industries will also be allowed to reopen but will only have about 50% capacity.
