DIGOS CITY—An elderly man living alone at a village in the town of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur province was found dead in his home in the morning of May 10, Sunday.
Maj. Crisaldo Gaila, acting Sta. Cruz police chief, said police received a phone call past 9 a.m. on Sunday from a certain Gavino Duenas Jr., 56, alerting police about Felix Calipe Putong, 70, being found dead in his house.
According to Duenas’ narrative, he went to Putong’s house to hand over to him the cash sent by Putong’s daughter, Jessa Claire Pineda.
Duenas told police foul smell greeted him as he approached the house and later saw Putong lying lifeless inside, prompting Duenas to call police.
Police arrived later and helped bring Putong’s body to a funeral parlor in Digos City.
Putong’s daughter, Jessa, told police her father had been suffering from hypertension and a heart disease and was low on potassium which could have caused his death.
But Gaila said Jessa refused to submit her father’s body for autopsy, insisting that the 70-year-old Putong died of natural causes and not because of foul play.
