FLOOD-PRONE AREAS IN CEBU MARKED

ABOUT 10 towns each were identified as flood-prone and landslide prone areas in Cebu, according to a geohazard map that will soon be released by the Provincial Planning Development Office (PPDO).

PPDO Coordinator engineer Adolfo Quiroga said the map done in coordination with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) will be distributed to each of the affected towns.

Among those identified in the map as flood-prone towns are Pinamungajan, Aloguinsan, Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Danao, Carmen, Catmon, Naga and Minglanilla.

“These places are usually those that have low-lying areas that make them vulnerable to flooding,” Quiroga said.

Elevated towns in the southern and central part of Cebu such as Sogod, Asturias, Balamban, Toledo, Dalaguete, Alcoy, Naga, Sibonga, Boljoon and San Fernando were marked as landslide-prone sites.

He said the map will contain information on the precautions to be taken by municipal officials before, during, and after a calamity such as potential evacuation areas. Correspondent Patricia Andrea Pateña

MAYOR’S SON ILL WITH DENGUE

THE 25-year-old son of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is confined at the Cebu Doctors’ Hospital for dengue.

Rama said his son Mikel’s platelet count remained unstable as of yesterday afternoon but he would not say how much.

He said his lawyer son was admitted last Monday due to fever.

It was later found out that his platelet count was unstable.

“As of today, doctors still could not say that he (Mikel) is already out of danger and he is no longer in need of transfusion,” Rama said.

The mayor said he already has at least five type A+ blood donors on standby just in case Mikel needs blood transfusion.

Rama’s youngest child, Michelin, is keeping Mikel company at the hospital while he attends to his appointments.

“I left him the Sto. Niño image. I told him that as much as possible, don’t lose faith in the Sto. Niño,” the mayor said. He said he had yet to talk to Mikel on where he contracted the dengue. Rama said Mikel lives in Guadalupe. Chief of Reporters Doris C. Bongcac
