MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.4 earthquake rocked Occidental Mindoro in the early hours of Sunday.
The quake struck at 3:18 a.m. at 20 km northeast of Lubang Island at a depth of 76 km, according to the Philippine Institute of Vulcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs reported various intensities in Luzon.
Reported intensities:
- Intensity IV – Makati, Manila, Parañaque
- Intensity III – Malabon, Mandaluyong, Pasay, Pateros, Quezon City, Taguig in Metro Manila; Tagaytay in Cavite; Calapan and Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro; Calatagan and Lipa City in Batangas
Instrumental Intensities:
- Intensity IV – Calatagan in Batangas; Malolos City and San Ildefonso in Bulacan; Navotas in Metro Manila
Intensity III – Calapan in Oriental Mindoro; Talisay in Batangas; Bacoor and Tagaytay in Cavite; Muntinlupa in Metro Manila; Guagua in Pampanga
Intensity II – Magalang in Pampanga and San Juan in Metro Manila
Intensity I – San Jose in Occidental Mindoro; Palayan and San Jose in Nueva Ecija; Gumaca in Quezon; Baler in Aurora
People on social media from various parts of Metro Manila like Makati, Antipolo City in Rizal, and Tanauan in Batangas said that they felt the tremor.
Aftershocks are still expected, but no damage was recorded as of now.
