COVID-19 ‘suspect’ dies in Palawan

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) MIMAROPA recorded one death of a COVID-19 “suspect” in Palawan on Saturday.

The region MIMAROPA stands for Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan.

Dr. Mary Ann Navarro, a provincial health officer, said the patient, who had known comorbidity, was from a southern municipality. The patient was swabbed and awaiting test results.

Further details on the person were yet to be disclosed as the case is still under investigation.

From among MIMAROPA provinces, Palawan is second in terms of having the highest casualty rate at 10.98 percent with 29 deaths out of 264 reported COVID-19 cases. Topping the list is Oriental Mindoro at 13.59 percent with 56 deceased patients out of 412 reported cases.

The island province has 67 cases of COVID-19 suspects, 17 of whom were admitted in different hospitals while 50 were under strict home quarantine, as of 3 p.m., Saturday, May 9.
