BFAR rescues Pygmy sperm whale, sea turtle in Ilocos
DAGUPAN CITY –– A Pygmy sperm whale and a green sea turtle were rescued by personnel of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The female Pygmy sperm whale, which is 2.17 meters long, was stranded on Thursday in Sulvec, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, and was brought to the BFAR provincial Fisheries office there by Philippine Coast Guard personnel.
In this city, the BFAR research center served as a temporary shelter for the stranded female green sea turtle, which weighs 3 kilos and is 33 centimeters long.
It was found on the beach off Rabon in San Fabian, Pangasinan, and was brought by municipal Fisheries officer Johnny Jaguillon to the BFAR center for rehabilitation.
