A day before deadline, DILG says SAP distribution about 89 percent complete

MANILA, Philippines — The distribution of cash aid under the social amelioration program (SAP) is now 89.49 percent complete a day before the deadline set for local government units (LGUs) to deliver the financial subsidy, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Saturday.

“Mukhang masusunod (ang deadline) dahil lumabas sa ating datos na last night as of 8 p.m. nasa 89.49 percent na po ang distribution natin sa buong bansa,” Interior Undersecretary and spokesman Jonathan Malaya said over dzBB.

(I think the deadline will be met because based on data last night, the distribution is now at 89.49 percent nationwide.)

The DILG had extended the SAP distribution on May 7 and again on May 10, Sunday. The original deadline was scheduled on April 30 as mandated under a memorandum of agreement signed by DILG and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which oversees the SAP disbursement.

Malaya mentioned that SAP distribution in the Caraga region is now at 100 percent while in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), distribution is 93.92 percent. The SAP distribution in the Bicol Region meanwhile is almost complete at 99.79 percent.

Meanwhile, SAP distribution in Metro Manila is now at 75.62 percent, Malaya said.

Malaya said DILG data show that Parañaque and Mandaluyong were among the cities in Metro Manila with the highest percentage of SAP distribution completion.

He said Parañaque City is now at 91.28 percent while Mandaluyong is close to 90 percent at 89.48 percent.

When asked what will happen to local officials who will fail to comply with the May 10 deadline, Malaya said the DILG will be issuing show-cause orders to allow them to explain why they had failed to meet the deadline.

“Makakatanggap na po sila ng show cause orders mula sa amin, dahil pangalawang extension na po ito,” he said, noting that the DILG will no longer extend the deadline beyond May 10.

(They will receive show cause orders from DILG because this is already the second extension.)
