A WOMAN lost at least P80,000 in cash and valuables to unidentified thieves in another swindling incident in Mandaue City last Wednesday afternoon.

Precious Jane Hadraque, a native of Sta. Rosa, Laguna, but lives in Mandaue City, lost cash and a cell phone to a man and woman who connived in duping her.

Police said it was the fifth reported swindling incident that happened this month in Mandaue.

The victim told police that she had just withdrew money from an automated teller machine (ATM) on M.C. Briones Street when a woman looking for a rent-a-car shop approached her.

A man passed by and offered to accompany the woman. The man advised the woman to avoid bringing a huge amount of money. The strangers then handed a white sock, which they said contained cash, to Hadraque.

To make sure that Hadraque would not run away from them, the two strangers asked for the victim’s wallet and her cell phone.

The two strangers left and Hadraque was surprised when she found out that the sock contained papers cut in the size of money. CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
