BFAR raises red tide alert in 3 provinces

/ 04:15 AM May 09, 2020

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has warned consumers against eating shellfish at this time due to another red time contamination.

Shellfish from Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol; Balite Bay, Mati City, in Davao Oriental; and Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur are dangerous for human consumption for the duration of the red tide.

Red tides result from the explosive blooming of harmful algae that produce toxins harmful to people and other life forms that live in the water, according to BFAR. —KARL R. OCAMPO
