TACLOBAN CITY –– A 66-year old man shot himself after testing “reactive” for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) using the rapid test in Kawayan town, Biliran province on Thursday afternoon.
Diosdado Tancinco was found dead at past 3 p.m. at the porch of their house in Barangay Tucdao, 18 km away from the town proper, said Police Lt. Ismael Corzon, the town’s police chief.
He had a gunshot wound on the head.
“Based on our investigation, the victim committed suicide. There was no foul play involved. He was depressed after he underwent a rapid test (for COVID-19), which indicated that he was reactive,” said Corzon in a phone interview.
Tancinco, a former overseas worker, was suffering from diabetes and kidney illness. He went to the OSPA Farmers Medical Center in Ormoc City on May 1, where he underwent a rapid test for COVID-19.
The rapid test yielded a “reactive” result.
On May 2, a team from the Biliran Provincial Hospital went to the victim’s house to get a swab sample from him to determine if he was truly infected with the virus.
The results have yet to be released.
