The government lost some P1 billion in revenue after the country’s premiere gateway, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia), was forced to drastically reduce its operations due to travel restrictions brought about by the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Before COVID-19, we averaged 768 passenger flights a day.” After restricted operations, “our airport did not even reach 10 percent of the flights,” Manila International Airport Authority general manager Ed Monreal said at the Laging Handa press briefing on Thursday. —JEROME ANING
