MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported 27 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) involving healthcare workers, bringing the total to 1,886 while recoveries rose to 403.

Of the total infection, 1,449 or 76.8 percent are deemed active cases, Heath Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said.

Meanwhile, the death toll among health workers remains at 34, of which 25 are doctors.

Vergeire also said that there has been a decrease in coronavirus infections among healthcare workers in the past few days.

“Nitong mga nakaraang araw ay paunti na nang paunti ang nakikita nating mga healthcare workers na nagpopositibo (sa coronavirus),” Vergeire said in a televised press briefing.

(In the past few days, there has been a decrease in the number of COVID-19 positive healthcare workers.)

All in all, the Philippines has 10,343 COVID-19 cases including 1,618 recoveries and 685 deaths.

Even as there are indications that the country is flattening the pandemic curve, health officials continue to remind the public to strictly observe physical distancing and exercise proper hygiene and cough etiquette to prevent the spread of the viral illness.
