Oriental Mindoro COVID-19 watch: 16 total cases as 6 more residents test positive

CITY OF CALAPAN – Six more individuals patients tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Oriental Mindoro, increasing the total number of cases in the province to  16.

Governor Humerlito Dolor made the announcement on a Facebook post Wednesday night, quoting results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) and San Lazaro Hospital.

Those who tested positive from this city were a 49-year-old female from Barangay Pachoca, a 47-year-old male from Barangay Balite, 58-year-old male from Barangay Managpi, 51-year-old female from Barangay Santa Isabel, 48-year-old female from Barangay San Andres in Naujan, the town’s first COVID-19 case, an a 62 year-old female from Barangay Sabang also the first case in Pinamalayan town.

Nine of earlier 10 cases have recovered. The remaining patient from San Jose in Occidental Mindoro died.

The first four new patients mentioned have no history of travel outside the province and are all asymptomatic.

They were included in the mass testing because they had direct contact with a female doctor who assessed them and was later found to be COVID-19 positive.

She was also asymptomatic and had fully recovered.

The  City Health Office (CHO) of Calapan said that since the four positive residents are asymptomatic, they are under strict home quarantine and monitoring.

The patient from Naujan has no travel history outside the province. She is also undergoing dialysis and was exposed to another dialysis patient who later tested COVID-19 positive.

Contact tracing is being undertaken on those who could have possible direct exposure on those who just tested positive and who were not yet included in the mass testing in previous weeks.

They will be included in a mass testing Thursday.

Also on Thursday, specimen will be taken from the confirmed cases for a second test and will be sent to the RITM.

Their third test will be on Friday.
