MANILA, Philippines — Policemen are not only frontliners; they also proved to be direct funders in the fight against COVID-19, with the Philippine National Police donating P228.5 million out of pocket.

The donations raised from the #TeamPNP Bayanihan Fund Challenge that started on April 15 were turned over by PNP chief Police Gen. Archie Gamboa to Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III on Wednesday.

The amount surpassed the original target of P200M, “as a result of the participation of all uniformed and nonuniformed personnel,” including those from the Philippine National Police Academy Alumni Association and the Police Cavaliers Association Inc.

“Beyond the call of duty, our policemen and non-uniformed PNP personnel volunteered to donate a portion of their pay to help fund the government’s efforts against the contagion. This is more than commendable. It is actually heroic,” Dominguez said.
