Radioman shot dead in Dumaguete City

DUMAGUETE CITY –– A broadcaster was shot dead by two men onboard a motorcycle along the national highway in Barangay Daro here on Tuesday evening.

Cornelio Pepino, also known as “Rex Cornelio,” 48, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body, according to a report from Police Lieutenant Allen June Germodo.

Pepino was rushed to the Silliman University Medical Center Foundation, Inc. but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Based on the investigation, Pepino and his wife were on board their motorcycle on their way home to Barangay Tubtubon, Sibulan town around 8:30 p.m. when the suspects shot him at the vicinity of Villa Amada.

The victim had just finished his evening program “Pukpukin mo Baby” at The Original Energy FM (DYMD-FM).

Pepino was a hard-hitting radio commentator and reporter who took a stand on issues such as illegal mining, graft and corruption, and poor governance.

Negros Oriental Vice Governor Mark Macias expressed outrage over the death of Pepino, who interviewed him during Tuesday’s radio program.
