MANILA, Philippines — A father was hurt while his son was arrested after allegedly engaging in a shootout with the police officers in Pasig City on Tuesday morning.
A report from National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) identified the suspects as Joselito Delos Santos and his son Jason Delos Santos, 24, who is a Criminology student.
Police Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, Quezon City Police District director, also revealed in an online press conference that Joselito was also a former patrolman assigned in Quezon City.
Initial investigation showed that elements of the Quezon City police station 12 were enforcing lockdown protocols at a checkpoint along Barangay Bagong Bayan when they flagged down the suspects on board a van.
The suspects, however, evaded the checkpoint leading to a police chase until they reached C5 Road Southbound at Barangay Ugong in Pasig City.
During the chase, the suspects shot the police officers, triggering a gun battle. The suspects’ vehicle then swerved and hit a center island in the area.
Police Cpl. Villamor Talosig sustained injuries during the shooting incident and was brought to The Medical City while Joselito, who was also injured, was brought to Rizal Medical Center for treatment.
Seized from the crime scene were a handgun, two magazines, live ammunition, and several boxes of liquor.
Jason was then brought to QCPD for detention as appropriate charges will be filed against him and his father.
