QC cops nab alleged GMA 7 driver for swallowing ‘shabu’

MANILA, Philippines — A driver for GMA7’s DZBB was arrested after swallowing a sachet of shabu (crystal meth) while at a checkpoint in Quezon City on Monday, city police district said Tuesday.

Police Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, identified the driver as Baron Giovani Belison, 36.

Based on an initial probe, Montejo said elements of Anonas police station led by Lt. Col. Ritchie Claravall were guarding a checkpoint along Aurora Boulevard at Barangay Loyola when they spotted Belizon, onboard a vehicle with the logo of GMA dzBB having an altercation with another motorist.

Law enforcers went to the area to stop the heated argument when Belison tried to escape but police immediately blocked him.

As policemen asked for Belison’s driver’s license, they caught the suspect swallowing a sachet of shabu to conceal the evidence.

Police also allegedly spotted another sachet of crystal meth which contained 0.2 grams at the suspect’s vehicle.

In a tweet, GMA’s radio station dzBB denied that Belison is an employee, but a “third party supplier” of the company.

“Si Baron Belison ay hindi empleyado ng @dzbb kundi ng third party supplier ng kumpanya,” read the tweet.

(Baron Bellison is not an employee of dzBB but a third party supplier of the company.)

Belison is now under the custody of Anonas police station for investigation while cases for reckless driving and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being readied against him.

In a statement issued by Script, a GMA subsidiary which employed Belison, if found guilty, the company will let him face the full force of the law.

“Additionally, to avoid similar incidents in the future, a random drug test will be conducted among its drivers and those who will be found positive, will be imposed with severe disciplinary action, which may even lead to termination,” the statement further read.
