MANILA, Philippines — Seventy-five percent of poor families in the country reeling from the effects of the novel coronavirus crisis have received financial assistance from the government’s Social Amelioration Program two days before the local government units’ deadline for the cash aid distribution, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Tuesday.
“Based po sa data ng DILG, 75 percent na sa buong bansa ang nakatanggap na ng social amelioration program,” Interior Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said when interviewed on dzMM.

“For every 10 families, almost eight na po ang nakatanggap nito,” he added.
The interior department previously extended the deadline for the first tranche of cash aid distribution for low-income families until May 7, Thursday.
DILG added that local government units will not be given another extension after May 7.
Malaya said they will ask local officials to explain if they fail to complete the distribution for SAP beneficiaries on or before the deadline.
“’Yung mga hindi nakahabol sa deadline, pinag-aaralan na namin kung ilalabas ang show cause orders. But definitely, we will ask them to explain,” he said.
