Negros gets P400 million for good housekeeping
BACOLOD CITY—The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has released over P400 million to 13 cities and 19 towns in Negros Occidental that received seals of good housekeeping from the department.
The amount, which came from the local government support fund of the DILG, would help local governments cope with the reduction of their Internal Revenue Allotment for 2012.
Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag, of the provincial DILG, said on Tuesday that Escalante City didn’t receive the funds yet because it still has to complete the paperwork needed for the fund release.
The DILG awards Seals of Good Housekeeping to local governments that make the grade in several criteria like good planning, sound fiscal management, transparency and accountability.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said the province’s P40 million would be used for road concreting projects that were specified by DILG.
