Corona on critics: They thought I’m a thief like them

MANILA, Philippines—Chief Justice Renato Corona is willing to sign a deed of donation to whoever could prove he has 45 other properties as disclosed by the Land Registration Authority (LRA).

“Eh di ilabas nila. Kung mailalabas nila iyong properties ko ibibigay ko na lang sa kanila (So disclose it. If they could produce the properties they can have them)…I will sign a deed of donation,” Corona told reporters after the 7th day of Novena at the Supreme Court.

“Ang problema sa ibang tao, hindi ko na sasabihin kung sino, akala nila magnanakaw ako tulad nila (The problem with some people, and I wouldn’t mention who they are, they thought I’m a thief like them),” Corona said.

The LRA has reported that a total of 45 properties are registered under the name of Corona, some family members and other personalities.

In a letter to Iloilo Representative Niel Tupas Jr, head of the prosecution team in the Corona impeachment, LRA administrator Eulalio Diaz III listed at least 13 properties “in the name spouses Cristina Corona and Renato Corona,” and another 12 in the name of the wife alone. Only two, both in Quezon City, were listed in the name of the Chief Justice.
