MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area east of Mindanao will bring showers and thunderstorms over Visayas and Mindanao, as well as several provinces in Luzon, on Monday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was embedded along the intertropical convergence zone, where trade winds converge, that was affecting Mindanao.

As of 3 p.m. on Sunday, the weather system was spotted at 60 kilometers northwest of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur province.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to prevail in Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon provinces, as well as in Bicol region, Visayas and Mindanao, due to the intertropical convergence zone and the trough of the low pressure area.

The trough may also bring similar weather in Aurora province and in Calabarzon region.

Pagasa warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to occasionally heavy rains or severe thunderstorms in these areas.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated showers, due to localized thunderstorms. INQ
