Tiangco places Navotas City on extreme ‘lockdown’ from May 6 to 15

EECQ to be imposed in Navotas

MANILA, Philippines — Citing the increasing number of residents who tested positive for the new coronavirus disease in Navotas, Mayor Toby Tiangco announced that he would be placing the entire city under “extreme enhanced community quarantine” (EECQ) starting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday until May 15.

According to Tiangco, most of the coronavirus-positive patients in Navotas frequently visited grocery stores, public markets and wet markets.

“During the remaining days of the enhanced community quarantine [in Luzon], we need concrete action to stop the increase in the number of cases or we need to flatten the curve. This is the only way for us to live ‘a new normal’ under a general community quarantine and prevent more infections,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Under Executive Order No. 029 signed on May 2, residents holding a home quarantine pass per barangay will have to strictly follow a schedule for when they are allowed to leave their houses to purchase essential goods.

For Monday, Wednesday and Friday, those allowed to go outside are residents from Barangays San Rafael Village, North Bay Boulevard South (NBBS) Kaunlaran, Bangkulasi, Bagumbayan South, Navotas East, Sipac Almacen, Daanghari, Tangos North and Tanza 1.

Those from Barangays NBBS Proper, NBBS Dagat-Dagatan, North Bay Boulevard North, Bagumbayan North, Navotas West, San Jose, San Roque, Tangos South and Tanza 2 are allowed the same privilege on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

“On the days that are not their schedule, the entire barangay shall be on EECQ and no person shall be allowed to leave their places of residence,” the order read.

Only those with health emergencies and for reasons allowed by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases are allowed to leave their houses outside their assigned schedule.

A complete lockdown will be implemented on the entire city on Sunday, May 10, for cleaning and disinfection of public markets. INQ
