Sacks fo rice for families sans cash aid in Naval, Biliran

TACLOBAN CITY – Families who did not receive cash aid under the government’s social amelioration program (SAP) were each given one sack of rice in Naval, Biliran.

“With this sack of rice, at least they can be assured of (food) sufficiency,” Naval Mayor Gerard Espina said said in an interview conducted by Biliran Island, an online news outlet based in Naval.

The SAP financial assistance was distributed by the government to help the “poorest of the poor” in the country to help them during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Naval town, the provincial capital of Biliran province, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) identified more than 9,300 beneficiaries of the cash grant.

Espina said the municipal government used at least P8 million for the procurement of the sacks of rice using its Internal Revenue Allotment given to all local government units by the national government.
