5 killed as 10-wheeler truck rams four other vehicles in Taytay
MANILA, Philippines – At least 5 people were confirmed dead after a 10-wheeler truck lost control of its brakes, hitting a Toyota Innova, a motorcycle, two jeepneys, dragging the concrete barrier before it slammed a police outpost in Barangay (village) Tikling, Taytay, Rizal at noontime Thursday.
The driver of the truck, and the driver of the motorcycle were among the fatalities, Taytay chief of police Supterintendent Arthur Masungsong said.
Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said that three Taytay officers, identified as Police Officer (PO) 1 Ron Ely Miranda, PO2 Harold Orfanel, and police trainee PO1 Christian Cantanero, were seriously hurt.
The victims were all taken to the Manila East Medical Center in Taytay, Rizal, Cruz said.
Masungsong also said the truck was loaded with tons of gravel and sand.
