One killed, 6 injured as fire hits small fishing vessel in Navotas port
MANILA, Philippines — A male worker of a small sea vessel was killed, and six others, one of them a minor, were injured in a fire that hit the vessel docked between Pier 3 and 4 at the Navotas Fishing Port complex in Navotas City Thursday.
The lone fatality was identified by Senior Fire Officer Joselito Dugan as a certan Jon-jon.
Dugan said four of the injured were brought to the Tondo General Hospital, and two others were taken to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
Initial investigation revealed that the ill-fated seacraft was involved in “paihi,” an illegal activity which involved siphoning-off crude oil and gasoline from ships and oil tankers. Police said drums were found in the burned vessel.
